Compare and Contrast: Baroque vs. Classical Music. At first glance, the Baroque music period and Classical music periods seem to be very much alike. They do, in fact, have many similarities, for instance, “the same basic orchestral and chamber ensembles are used” (“From Baroque”, n.d.) in both periods.
Classical music is the music of the classical period that began in 1730 to 1820 AD. Although that is the original reference to the classical music in the history of western music, the term is now being extensively used, rather colloquially, to refer to a variety of western music from the ancient times to the present; a kind of music which is neither modernized nor complex, but light, simple.
Modern classical and avant garde concert music of the 20th and 21st centuries forms the primary focus of this blog. It is hoped that through the discussions a picture will emerge of modern music, its heritage, and what it means for us.
Classical music, on the other hand, tends to be performed from a written score. It's old, and it has to be done more or less the same way each time. And because there is a prescriptive document stipulating precisely how it should go, Classical music tends to stay more on message.
Appreciation of the classical music form by romantic era composers is highly evident in their works. These romantic artists kept on writing concertos, symphonies, and operas, all of which were established classical forms. Chamber music was extensively common during the classical period.
A more contemporary composer, Hannah Lash, creates music still to this day in the classical style. Although the classical era is cited to have ended in the early 19th century, the amount of variety is what helped this particular style of music live on through the ages with new composers.
In much of the essay, it is shown that modern music often experiences opposition. In the past, and even still the present, society and the music world initially reject modern music. In the essay music is described as a living language. When modern music is born it can also be considered as new way of expressing a new language.
