This course is designed to introduce students from a variety of mathematical, scientific and engineering backgrounds to some of the fundamental notions of nonlinear dynamics. We will concentrate on the simplest dynamical systems which can exhibit so-called chaotic behaviour -- the discrete dynamical systems which arise from iterations of real or complex valued functions.
Advanced Dynamic FEA. This 4-session, live online course covers a broad range of solution types, beyond the usual natural frequency and dynamic response methods. This allows more physical phenomena to be investigated and simulated using dynamics in FEA. The major topics are: random vibration; shock and response spectra; nonlinear dynamic response.
Final exam. The final exam is on Thursday December 20 at 2:45pm.It will last 2 hours. The exam will consist of (about) 4 questions. You are responsible for all the material in the class, except as noted below, but the exam will lean heavily on the post-midterm parts.
